How To Shop

Our Mission: To build a healthy, equitable food system that creates better health outcomes and economic opportunities for marginalized communities in the DC metropolitan region.

Who We Are

Dreaming Out Loud is rebuilding urban, community-based food systems, helping to increase access to healthy food and improve community health. We are also developing low-income entrepreneurs and cooperatives, and training at-risk adult residents for sustainable, family-supporting wages since 2008. Unique in our integrated, community-driven approach, DOL moves beyond the โ€˜food accessโ€™ paradigm and focuses on community self-determination and food sovereignty.

What We Do

DOL Grocery is an online marketplace where customers across the DMV area can access fresh, locally sourced produce and various grocery items. Inside of our online marketplace we host our Black Farm CSA. Black Farm CSA stands for Black Farm Community Supported Agriculture. It is a subscription program where you can get deliveries of fresh, locally sourced produce and various pantry items from our network of value-aligned producers in the DMV area.

Why We Are Here

We launched our CSA to fight food insecurity in the DC metro region while also economically supporting the black and brown farmers in our area. We do this work to make sure families East of the River are able to order healthy groceries every week. Our goal is to make sure that everyone in our community is able to feed their family and nourish their body.

Meet Our Farm Team

Dreaming Out Loud operates two farms, The Farm at Fort Stanton and The Farm At Kelly Miller. They are both urban farms dedicated to growing thousands of pounds of fresh, nutritious food each year and redistributing it back into our community. Beyond food production, we serve as a hub for agricultural workshops, workdays, and hands-on learning opportunities that educate aspiring farmers and community members. Through sustainable growing practices and shared knowledge, we strengthen local food systems and build pathways for community led agriculture.

Our Farm Team Comprises of:

Autumn, Daanye, Carlos, Terrell, and Goose

As a multi-site producer CSA, we also buy produce and value added items from local farmers and producers to economically support them and bring fresh, local food to the community.

โ€œEnding food apartheid is a racial justice issue. It is a man-made phenomenon that is a function of overlapping systems of oppression โ€” white supremacy, profit-over-people capitalism, racialized violence and discrimination, and the resultant racial wealth gap. An end means healed individuals, communities, as a part of holistic reparations. We are working to end food apartheid and close the racial wealth gap in our lifetime.โ€
